How to Choose Toyota Tacoma Oil Type

Choosing the right Toyota Tacoma oil type is an important part of keeping your vehicle in peak condition. Here’s some insight from our N Charlotte Toyota experts:

  • Synthetic oil is a better option than conventional oil for the Tacoma because it’s formulated to last longer and perform better. This motor oil will combat oil breakdown and can withstand long periods of high heat. Conventional oil may be cheaper, but synthetic will allow you to go longer between oil changes.

  • Our recommendation is SAE 0W-20 or SW-5W-20 oil. These options are great for off-roading and durability.

How Often to Get a Toyota Tacoma Oil Change

This will really depend on what kind of Toyota Tacoma oil type you choose. With conventional oil, you’ll need a Toyota Tacoma oil change every 3,000-5,000 miles. However, synthetic oil will allow you to go 7,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. We recommend talking to your Toyota of N Charlotte auto care specialist about getting on a schedule. We can send you reminders about upcoming appointments so that you never miss an oil change!

How to Choose a Toyota Tacoma Oil Filter

Although there is no specific Toyota Tacoma oil filter, we do suggest sticking with the Toyota brand. This will just ensure that you’re getting the best possible quality, and of course better performance. Also, it’s a good idea to make sure the Toyota Tacoma oil filter you choose fits your exact vehicle before making a purchase!

When to Consider a High-Mileage Toyota Tacoma Oil Change

Does your N Charlotte Toyota Tacoma have more than 100,000 miles? If so, you may want to consider a high-mileage oil change. This involves using a different motor oil blend with special conditioners, detergents, and antioxidants that can prevent leaking and other issues older models experience.

Purchasing a Toyota Tacoma Rooftop Tent

If you love taking your N Charlotte Toyota Tacoma on camping excursions or other overlanding adventures, you should consider purchasing a Tacoma rooftop tent. If you don’t know much about this awesome vehicle accessory, we’re here to share all the details on what they are, how to choose the best tent for your vehicle, and more!

Why You Should Consider a Roof Tent for Tacoma Camping

Here are some of the perks of purchasing and using a Tacoma rooftop tent:

  • A Tacoma rooftop tent is way more portable than a camper or RV. You don’t have to tow anything, so your truck can still take on rough terrain with ease.

  • These tents are super easy to assemble. No poles, no lines, the tent pops right up and is ready to go in 3-6 minutes!

  • You’re guaranteed to be comfortable in a Tacoma rooftop tent. They typically come with a blow-up mattress or built-in padding to ensure peaceful sleep.

  • Also, you get the benefit of being high off the ground. Not only will this eliminate the risk of mud and bugs getting into your tent, but it will also offer you some great views.

  • Roof tents are durable and reliable. They are made to hold up against the elements, and they’re meant to last for years.

Choosing the Right Tacoma Rooftop Tent for Your N Charlotte Vehicle

Here are some of the factors to consider when choosing your roof tent:

  1. What size do you need? This will depend on how many people need to sleep in the tent and the measurements of your vehicle.

  2. Is the tent compatible with your roof rack? Determine how much weight your roof rack (or bed rack) can carry as well as how much weight your truck itself can carry. You can always ask your N Charlotte auto tech if you have questions.

  3. Do you need additional living space? If you do, there are additional rooms, awnings, and more that you can add to the tent later.

  4. Do you want a hardshell or a softshell? Softshell tents have a fabric exterior that’s lighter and a bit more affordable. Hardshell tents pop up vertically and offer more protection and installation than softshell options.

  5. What are the shipping costs? Sometimes, roof tents can have steep shipping costs due to their weight. If this is the case, we recommend seeing what local options are available for pickup to avoid those fees.

Are you the proud owner of a Toyota RAV4? If so, we’re sure you know how important it is to keep your N Charlotte vehicle in the best shape possible. That being said, you may find yourself needing a little more info about what's going on under the hood. Our auto care experts are here with a guide to Toyota RAV4 oil type, changes, and more - let’s get into it!

Toyota RAV4 oil change

Toyota RAV4 Oil Type: What’s the best option?

It can be daunting to decide which motor oil is right for your N Charlotte Toyota, but having options is good! Our auto shop offers various blends to choose from, so here’s some advice from our auto care team:

  • Toyota RAV4 with less than 75,000 miles: oil with a viscosity of 0W-20 or 5W-20
  • Toyota RAV4 with more than 75,000 miles: oil with a viscosity of 5W-30

When should you schedule a Toyota RAV4 oil change?

Regularly scheduling a Toyota RAV4 oil change is so important to keep your vehicle in peak driving condition. How often you need an oil change depends on what kind of motor oil your RAV4 is using. It’s also affected by how many miles your car has or how many you have driven since your previous oil change. Here’s the standard recommendation:

  • Conventional oil: With this oil type, you will need a Toyota RAV4 oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
  • Synthetic oil: You can typically go longer between oil changes with this blend. Typically you will need a change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.

If you’re unsure, check with our N Charlotte Toyota auto care team to see what is best for your vehicle. We can get you on an oil change schedule and send reminders before each appointment so that you stay on track.

Is there a special Toyota RAV4 oil filter?

The short answer is no - you have options when it comes to choosing a Toyota RAV4 oil filter. We do recommend sticking with Toyota brand filters just to ensure the best quality and performance, but the most important tip we have is making sure the filter you choose fits your exact model before purchasing. If you have any questions, consult your N Charlotte auto technician about the best option for your RAV4.

Rainproof Your Windshield With the Help of N Charlotte Toyota Auto Experts

Rainy season, hurricane season, normal everyday drizzle - driving in the rain can be annoying and sometimes dangerous. You should start preparing for those dreary drives by learning how to rainproof your windshield, and our Toyota of N Charlotte auto care team is here to help! Let’s get your car ready, so you can feel safe and confident on the road when it rains.

Here are 4 easy ways you can rainproof your windshield

Our N Charlotte experts recommend these four steps to get your windshield prepped and ready for driving in the rain.

1. Regularly Inspect Your Windshield

You should consistently be keeping an eye on your windshield for any chips or cracks. If you do notice this kind of damage, you should immediately notify your auto insurance company and talk to them about a windshield replacement (which is free with some states' auto insurance, if you didn’t know). Assessing and addressing this damage will prevent unnecessary danger when driving in the rain.

2. Thoroughly Clean Your Windshield

Most people don’t clean their windshields as often as they should. Making this a priority is key to keeping your N Charlotte Toyota prepped and safe for all driving conditions. Smudges and dirt build up over time and can impair your line of vision, so you need to be proactive!

3. Invest in Better Quality Wiper Blades

Windshield wipers are critical when it’s raining, so why wouldn’t you want a really great quality blade? They will last longer and perform better, so you can have peace of mind when driving in intense weather. Not sure if you’re due for a windshield wiper replacement? Here are some signs:

  • Chattering or squealing noises

  • Constant smudges on the windshield

  • Blades bouncing along the glass

  • Scratches on the windshield

Once you get your new wipers, you should do what you can to keep them in the best shape possible! Here’s some tips from our N Charlotte auto experts:

  • Consistently clean the blades regularly with wiper fluid or another solution

  • Protect your windshield wipers from extreme hot or cold temperatures as much as possible to maintain the flexibility of the rubber

  • Don’t ever use your wipers as an ice scraper - as tempting as it might be!

4. Try out Rain Repellant

Rain repellant is a great resource if you want to thoroughly rainproof your windshield. This is a solution that will cause water to bead so you can see more through your windshield clearly. It also helps the water glide off the glass easier, and it prevents excess condensation (which is great for your defroster). Here are some tips from our Toyota of N Charlotte auto experts for applying your rain repellant.

  1. Clean the glass thoroughly before beginning application

  2. Ensure the glass is completely dry before proceeding

  3. Apply the solution using the manufacturer instructions and be thorough

  4. When the rain repellant is dry, use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the glass

  5. Let it cure then rinse the windshield and dry again

How to check car oil: A Guide by Toyota of N Charlotte

You probably know how important it is to get your oil changed regularly, but do you know how to check car oil yourself? If your answer is no, don’t worry you’re not alone! Lots of people are intimidated by what’s going on under their hood, and most of them determine when an oil change is due by the little sticker on the windshield. It’s actually a good idea to regularly check your car oil between changes, and your N Charlotte auto care team is going to tell you how!

how to check car oil

How to check car oil, a step-by-step guide.

  1. Turn off your vehicle and let it cool down before getting started. Also, try to park on a flat, even surface.

  2. Pop the hood and locate the dipstick. The dipstick is a tab or ring that will be sticking out of the engine, and this is how you’ll check the car oil.

  3. Remove the dipstick from the engine, carefully. Once you pull it out, wipe the dipstick on a clean rag and then put it back in. You’ll then remove it one more time to see if it has oil on it. This is what you’re looking for -

  • What color is the oil? If your oil is a dark caramel color, it’s clean! However, if the oil is black or brown or you spot small pieces of debris in it then it’s dirty. Dirty oil needs to be changed out for your car to run efficiently. If your oil is a milky color, you’ll probably need to get your car looked at because there may be coolant leaking into the oil. Definitely call your Toyota of N Charlotte auto service experts if you’re worried about the color of your oil.

  • What level is your oil at? If the oil level is in between the two little tic marks at the end of your dipstick, you have enough oil in the car for your engine to operate properly. If the oil level is lower than the bottom mark, that’s too low and you probably need an oil change. It’s also possible that your car is leaking oil, so it’s a good idea to talk to your auto service tech quickly.

  1. Place the dipstick back into the engine. Now you know whether or not you need an oil change, and if you do you can reach out to the N Charlotte Toyota service center to schedule an appointment.

Additional tips for oil changes

Now you know how to check car oil, but here are a few more tips and tricks!

  • You’ve probably heard that oil change frequency is determined by mileage, but it can also be determined by time. On average, you should get an oil change every 3,000 miles OR every 3 months - whichever comes first. This can vary depending on what kind of motor oil you use, but it’s a misconception that driving your car less frequently means you don’t still need regular oil changes. Our Toyota of N Charlotte auto service team can get you on a schedule and send reminders when you’re due for an appointment. We want to help keep your Toyota in the best shape possible!

  • It’s a good idea to figure out what kind of oil your car requires. Typically, this information can be found in the owner’s manual or you can always ask our N Charlotte auto care experts for assistance. If you have an older vehicle, keep in mind that the oil your car requires can change over time so it may be a good idea to check in and see if you should be making any changes.
